Photographed by S.A. Crimella
Featured: A young Rashaida woman is photographed near her home. The Rashaida are Sunni Islams whose woman are famous both for their beautiful veils, burqas and dresses and for being require to cover their faces in public beginning at age 5. Because they believe that even showing a smile would be offensive to the Prophet Muhammad, Rashaida women keep their faces covered even while eating or sleeping, removing them only when they are alone with their husbands.
